Discover León in one day with a tour that takes you from historic landmarks to the vibrant Barrio Húmedo. Visit the stunning Cathedral, the medieval art of the Basilica of San Isidoro, and enjoy local tapas before relaxing at the Paseo de Papalaguinda.
Start your day in León’s Old Town exploring the León Cathedral (Pulchra Leonina), a European Gothic gem famous for its multicolored stained-glass windows that create a unique atmosphere. Stroll through the interior and reflect on the Camino de Santiago.
Just a few minutes away, visit the Basilica of San Isidoro, known for the Pantheon of the Kings of León, also called the “Sistine Chapel of the Romanesque”, with 12th-century frescoes. The basilica also houses the remains of Saint Isidore, offering a moment of spiritual reflection.
From there, walk to the Palace of the Guzmanes, home to the León Provincial Council, and to Casa Botines, a modernist building designed by Antoni Gaudí, standing in contrast to the local architecture.
Head to the Barrio Húmedo, León’s gastronomic heart, to enjoy traditional tapas such as morcilla leonesa (blood sausage), chorizo, and cecina, paired with regional wine. The lively atmosphere is perfect for socializing with other pilgrims.
Then, visit the Convent of San Marcos, an impressive Renaissance building that once served as a pilgrims’ hospital and now houses a Parador hotel. Admire its majestic façade and historic surroundings.
End your tour at the Paseo de Papalaguinda along the Bernesga River, ideal for relaxing before continuing your journey. If time allows, attend the Pilgrim’s Mass at the Church of San Francisco de la Vega, near the city’s edge, to receive a blessing and spiritually connect with the Camino.
