When you struggle and the Camino de Santiago calls you just need to accept that call. Mario Andric did and he found inspiration to write his new songs.

Mario’s Camino began with the chance encounter of two pilgrims in his Austrian hometown. Inspired by their journey, he started walking local Camino routes, eventually deciding to take three months to walk from Switzerland to Santiago. The experience brought him friendship, challenges, and the creative spark he had been missing.

A Walk That Started at Home

For Viennese musician and graphic designer Mario Andric, the Camino de Santiago began not in Spain, but right outside his door in Austria. The idea was planted when two pilgrims passed through his hometown while walking from Bratislava. Hosting them inspired Mario to take his own first steps on the Camino – starting close to home and slowly expanding his horizons.

From Routine to Renewal

At the time, Mario was stuck in routine and searching for a reset. His early walks on the Austrian route gave him a taste of freedom and reflection. That spark eventually led him to quit his job and commit to a full pilgrimage, walking from Switzerland through France and into Spain on the Camino Francés. Along the way, he faced snow in Galicia, bonded with fellow pilgrims, and found joy in music-filled nights at albergues.

The Music Returns

Mario hadn’t written music in years before the Camino. But the road, the people, and unforgettable moments – like meeting fellow musician Suzy in Grañón – reignited his creativity. By the end of his journey, he had new songs and fresh inspiration, proving that the Camino doesn’t just carry you to Santiago – it can carry you back to yourself.

Mario is a musician and graphic designer from Vienna whose walk to Santiago revived his passion for songwriting and reconnected him with the joy of creativity.
