Veterans on the Camino: Walking Toward Healing and Brotherhood
Finiding peace in the Camino de Santiago after a life of saving other people’s lives. Brad Generaux will share the story of Veterans on the Camino.
Veterans from different backgrounds came together through a shared desire to heal from the invisible wounds of service. The Camino de Santiago offered them the perfect setting – a journey where walking, talking, and being present could create lasting change.
A Mission of Healing
For this group of veterans, the Camino de Santiago offered something no clinic or program could: the open road, shared miles, and the quiet space to process their experiences together. Walking side by side, they carried both physical packs and the invisible weight of military service.
Strength in Shared Steps
Each day on the Camino provided new challenges and new opportunities for connection. Stories were shared over meals, laughter echoed on the trail, and moments of silence offered space for reflection. The Camino’s community spirit created a safe place for honesty, healing, and rebuilding trust – in others and in themselves.
A Lasting Bond
Reaching Santiago was more than a destination – it was a milestone in a longer journey of recovery and camaraderie. The friendships forged on the trail became a continuing source of support long after the final step.
This initiative brings together veterans from around the world to walk the Camino de Santiago as a path toward healing, connection, and renewed purpose.
